There’s something to be said about buying your valuable camera equipment at a dedicated store like Kerrisdale Cameras. I’m glad to see a store like this still operating alive and well in today’s order everything online mindset.

The best part about this, aside from the store being dedicated to photo and video (i.e., its not selling groceries or appliances too), is having knowledgable staff. Matt was very helpful in weighing in on some of my lens picks, helping me narrow down the choice for a great lens for what I intend to shoot. All I had to do was explain what I wanted to accomplish, and he had solutions for me.

If you’re in the market for camera equipment, and live in Victoria, I believe you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better shopping experience than Kerrisdale Camera. Highly recommend coming here for your next purchase!

Went in looking for a specific battery for an old digicam. Even though they didn’t have what I needed, Iona was very kind and helpful. I could tell the staff really knew their stuff, and she recommended a few places to look for the right product.

** UPDATE: I was at Kerrisdale again mid-March 2024, while I was back in Victoria. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better camera store anywhere. Bill was there to talk to again about all things photography... he's a walking encyclopedia! I also had the pleasure of meeting Juan who answered all my questions about two cameras I was looking at. Great young man who seems to really enjoy and is enthusiastic about his work with cameras and photography. Well done!

A pleasure to write this review after visiting Kerrisdale Cameras in Victoria. Specifically, thanks to associate, Bill, for his help and incredible knowledge in all things photography.

This is a great camera store - the original kind of camera store - before cell phones took over and pushed “real” cameras out of the way.

While I own an iPhone 14 Pro Max, I prefer using my actual cameras, purely for the experience of using their settings and enjoying photography itself, instead of pointing a cell phone with its clinical method of capturing shots. As Seinfeld said, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that…” but, really, anyone can point a cell phone at something and click the big button.

There is something much more satisfying using an actual camera, with lenses, viewfinder, etc., and the place to go is Kerrisdale, whether you’re looking for a camera, new or used, digital or film, lenses, developing, accessories, or just for sage advice from someone who knows their stuff.

Bill was very helpful, showing me different cameras and, yes, I ended up buying a used Nikon I spotted as I was leaving. And I’m really pleased with my purchase.

Although I no longer live and work in Victoria, I’ll be making return visits to Kerrisdale.

If you’re looking for any of the aforementioned and not sure of where to start, I highly recommend this store.
